Where is Bermuda?
Bermuda was first settled in 1609 by shipwrecked English colonists bound for Virginia. Tourism to the island to escape North American winters first developed in Victorian times. Tourism continues to be important to the island's economy, although international business has overtaken it in recent years. Bermuda has developed into a highly successful offshore financial center. The island is the UK's largest dependent territory and inherits a substantial legacy of British common and corporate law. Bermuda is located off the east coast of North America. It is comprised of a group of islands which are situated approximately 720 miles east of North Carolina. As Britain's oldest self-governing colony, Bermuda is home to more than half of the Fortune 500 companies, including the overwhelming majority of Fortune's top 100. Bermuda is the second largest captive insurance centre in the world.
